30+ Seeds. Red Calabash is an unusual variety that originates from Chiapas, Mexico. It was first documented by William Weaver as appearing in a 1793 painting by Raphael Paele. Now that's an old variety!!

I grew it this year for the first time and was quite pleased with the results. The plants are quite productive and somewhat compact (5 feet). The fruit are deep red in color, meaty, and average 3-4 ounces in size. They are ribbed (some say they resemble pumpkins in shape) and have a delicious, heirloom flavor. There is good reason Red Calabash has been grown for at least 250 years. 60 days, Open-Pollinated, Indeterminate.
