This is an old heirloom European variety used to develop our present grocery store "giant head" varieties. It is a vigorous grower and produces numerous side florets along with a 4" central head. Considered by many to be the best-tasting broccoli variety available. I love the taste and really like the number of florets it produces.
Broccoli is a cool season crop it is best to start as soon as the ground can be worked in early Spring. You can also start it indoors 4 to 6 weeks before planting outside.
Late Summer/Fall planting is also recommended in those parts of the country that don't see a hard frost (25°F) until December.
